BIG CAT XT™ Spinning

BIG CAT XT™ Spinning

Catfish are the second most fished-for freshwater species in America behind bass, and Zebco is launching an impressive offering of beefed-up rods and reels called “Big Cat” to accommodate the serious value-minded anglers who passionately pursue them. The tip guides on all Big Cat rods are made of stainless to minimize insert pop-out, and high-vis glow tips aid in seeing the slightest bite.

BIG CAT XT™ Spinning is rated 2.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Wouldn't buy again I purchased two of the 7 foot combos. They look fantastic. I use them last week. I brought in 2-3 pound channel cats with no problem. I hooked a much bigger one tonight and the reel could not handle it. The fish felt in the 10 to 15 pound range and I thought the reel was going to come apart. I lost the fish. And yes, I had the drag set correctly. I LOVE the Zebco 33 and 808/888 products! But this combo is disappointing. I will keep the rods but replace the reels with something better quality. It was not worth the price. Thank you.

Questions

What pound of line is max with it? Braided line work with it?

Asked by: Mark1
Yes with braided. I run 50lb "big game" monofilament line on one, 65lb 8 thread micro braid on another. Both with big no rolls, swivels, and a circle hook on a 8-12" lead. Have ran live gill, cut bait with no issues. Great for ripping snags loose, if you really got buried you could snap the pole with either line if you try to pull the plug out of the river/lake/pond. But you'd have to be trying pretty hard. (I've brought in several 4x4 hog panels from irrigation channel back waters.)

Can you tell me when the Big Cat XT 50 conventional reels will be available to purchase? Also will the XT 50 have that clicking sound when you turn the handle like the XT 30 Does? I hope not. It's loud and annoying.

Asked by: The Catfish Hunter
The 50 size Bit Cat XT should be available now on our website. It will not have a clicking sound when you turn the handle
