Rated 5 out of 5 by from Zebco Reel This is my favorite reel it the 888 SPINCAST REEL I use it all the time

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My go to Saltwater reel. I use this reel in the saltwater of the Gulf of Mexico almost everyday since I bought it. I fish the gulf almost every day for two to four hours at a time and sometimes twice a day. I did waterproof the inside with a rust preventer CP90. This reel is smooth casting and reeling in the big Bull Reds. I have had zero problems. I have been using the 808 Magnum ( I have 4 of them ) for the last two years in saltwater after waterproofing the inside and they have held up well except for the release button. With this new design I don't expect this problem. I will be buying another one or two in the near future. I usually fish with 3 rods at the same time as I am a surf fisher. Zebco's best reel so far.

Questions

I have the 888 reel, what rod would you recommend for it?

Asked by: Irving
This reel is well suited for any rod from 6’ through 8’ and MH or H powers. It has also been known to do well with 9’ and 10’ rods.

Can I use 888 for salt water fishing? Are the internal parts corrosion resistant?

Asked by: SunnyD
This model is not made for saltwater. We do have the 808 Saltfisher that is made for saltwater.

When I have bait alert switch on the 888 when a fish takes line out do I flip bait alert off then reel or just reel? Bait alert does free spool so this is the reason for question

Asked by: Uziman 411
You will want to flip the bait alert switch off when the fish stops pulling out line. Make sure you're drag is set accordingly though, otherwise your drag will be to low or to high and the hook either won't set properly or the fish may break your line. The fish will need to be able to pull out line, but with resistance. With the bait alert switch on you are basically at zero drag. It would be almost impossible to properly set the hook by reeling with bait alert on.

What is the line capacity for this reel if using 20lb spiderwire blue camo

Asked by: Wingman_aa
For optimal performance we recommend using standard monofilament in 15 - 30lb, or 50 lb and higher braid

When it comes to mono.  How much higher can you go beyond the 25 pound test that it comes prespooled with, without hurting the reels performance or causing tangles?

Asked by: Slick1980
For mono would recommend 15 pound mono up to 30 pound .

why does walmart advertise 2 different 888 models, (888h 25 bx3) $36.36 and (888h 25 cp3) $30.16. The search on the zebco web site only lists the bx3. What is the difference???

Asked by: bensgreentrain
They are the same reel, only packaged differently. The BX3 comes in a box and the CP comes in a Clam pack.
