808 SALT WATER is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Zebco 808 Saltwater - great for catfishing The Zebco 808 SW is a nice reel. I purchased it over the regular 808 or the 888 as I felt the fact that it was made for saltwater it would hold up better than the others I mentioned. I was a little skeptical that I would like the power handle as I generally prefer the double paddle style, but I do like it and think it works great. I still would like a choice of handle styles though. Still fishing the line that came on it and as it's one of the few Zebco reels that will handle braid, I'll probably give that a try when I switch out the line. So is this guy just talking about reels, or does he actually use it? Well, as a matter of fact I used it for some early morning catfishing on the 4th of July and got a couple of nice eating size channel cats. It casts well, reels smoothly and the drag seems decent, though I have not caught anything to give it a good workout yet. I have it mounted on a 7 foot ugly stick medium action pole. PROS: easy to use, well built, works well. Seems built to last a long time. CONS: a bit big for my needs. I fish channel cats more than some of the other bigger species and it would be really nice if Zebco built something along the lines of a 33max size reel but with 808SW or Omega build quality.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I have always been a fan of the 33 reel but for large channels it takes some finesse to land them on 8 pound test. This year I decided to buy a 808 because I have never liked spinning reels. I have used it 12 times this year and I am happy with its performance. It has landed a 21 inch channel and many 18 +. It actually seems to preform better with bigger fish. Its not as smooth as the 33 and the drag lacks percussion but it's up to the job. It's the only spinncast that will handle a big cat. Well worth the money.

I am looking at this reel for my father because he cannot get the hang of fishing with any of my bait casters. I was wondering if he might just spool this with 10lb line for bass fishing in fresh water, then step up to 20lb for salt.

Asked by: jdhoggg
Yes this reel work great for that

Difference between the 808 saltwater and the new 888 ?  which one is better all around reel?

Asked by: Dano
Main difference is the new 888 features a 3-bearing system with a continuous anti-reverse clutch.  The 808 saltwater is a single stainless-steel bearing drive with a corrosion-resistant finish. Better all around reel between the two: The 888
